Together The People confirms The Cat In The Hat and Horrible Histories for Kids

Together The People Festival have confirmed on the main stage on Saturday afternoon audiences will be The Cat in the Hattreated to one of the wildest family theatre shows round: The Cat In The Hat, based on the much loved book by Dr Seuss. Expect towering hats, mischief and an imagination recharge!

Katie Mitchell’s acclaimed stage adaptation of Dr Seuss’s The Cat In The Hat will embark on its first UK tour in 2015, playing at Together The People Festivalon Saturday 5th September 2015.

From the moment his tall, red-and-white-striped hat appears around the door, Sally and her brother know that the cat in the hat is the funniest, most mischievous cat they have ever met. With the trickiest of tricks and craziest of ideas, he turns a rainy afternoon into an amazing adventure. But what will mum find when she gets home? Based on the much-loved book by Dr Seuss, The Cat in the Hat is a lively and engaging first theatre experience for young children aged 3+.

‘Triumphs as the maestro of mischief’ The Stage

The Cat in the Hat was first published in 1957 as Dr. Seuss’s second book for children. It marked the transition of Theodor Seuss Geisel from successful advertising executive and political cartoonist, to world-famous illustrator and children’s author. The curious and intricate rhyming found in The Cat in the Hat is still adored decades later with over 250 million copies sold worldwide in more than 20 different languages. Katie Mitchell’s stage adaptation of The Cat in the Hat first played in the National Theatre’s Cottesloe Theatre in December 2009, before transferring to the Young Vic in 2010.

This new production was first presented in a sold out run at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, before transferring to the Pleasance Theatre in London for a Christmas Season. The 2015 tour will visit 30 venues across the UK.

SEUSS’ THE CAT IN THE HAT, based on the book by Dr. Seuss, was originally produced in 2009 by the National Theatre of Great Britain, and adapted and originally directed by Katie Mitchell. This new production is directed by Lillie Collier, designed by David Shields and produced by Paul Taylor-Mills Ltd. It is presented through special arrangement with Josef Weinberger Plays Ltd on behalf of Music Theatre International (MTI).

Ever popular book and TV series Horrible Histories will also be taking to the stage with their brilliantly funny Horrible Histories Live on Stageeducational theatre show ‘Barmy Britain’; a breakneck rollick through 1,000 years of our great land that can be enjoyed by kids of all ages!

We all want to meet people from history. The trouble is everyone is dead! So BARMY BRITAIN is back with a brand new show full of crazy new characters and rude new rulers from Britain’s barmy past!

Will King John be a martyr for the Magna Carta? Party with the Puritans and light up your life with the great fire of London! Clap along with crazy King Charles! Will you see eye to eye with Admiral Nelson? Does the Duke the Wellington get the boot? Vomit with the vile Victorians and make a great escape the First World War!

After the sell-out success of Barmy One and Two comes this amazing new show. It’s history with the nasty bits left in!
