Details: Second Nature is magical, fun outdoor learning experiences for children to acquire nature awareness skills through a wide range of forest, field and wilderness activities. Second Nature is led by Nicky Fish, very inspirational and well known in her field as an extremely experienced, passionate and knowledgeable environmental group leader.
Second Nature offers outdoor bushcraft and nature connection activities in private woodland settings in and around Brighton and Lewes with the main site in lovely setting within Stanmer Park. There are workshops for Schools, Home Education Groups,After School/ Youth Clubs and and Family Groups.
Kids Woodland/ Bushcraft Birthday Parties. Suitable for 5- 12 year olds. Based within lovely private woodland setting within Stanmer Park in Brighton. Bespoke activities tailored to your needs combining activities such as: Camouflage & Woodland Games, Den building challenge, Fire Craft, Campfire Cooking, Marshmallows, and Owl Pinata.
Holiday Activities: Bushcraft, Fire Craft, Whittling, Woodland Games, Pond Dipping, Animal Tracking, Nest Box Building & Birding workshops. Sessions are 3-4 hrs usually on Tuesdays and Thursday during School holidays. Please see website or contact directly.
Night Time Family Bat & Owl Prowls: These take place from late April to end of October (weather depending ) at Stanmer Park. A guided walk in the dark to discover the nocturnal animals. Bat detectors are used to locate and hear bats and identify the type. Learn techniques to call to wild animals and get up close and personal with the Owls.
Workshops for Schools and other groups: Full or half day sessions in the woods at Stanmer Park or other locations locally. All key stages catered for exploring wildlife or Forest School type sessions. Days can be themed or focused on nature studies of species or habitat eg. Trees/ Woodlands, Ponds, Coast, Birds, Mammals, Minibeasts etc. Wildlife Tracking & Techniques to get closer to wildlife, Camouflage, Hibernation, Sensory and Woodland games and team building activities.
Second Nature workshops are all run directly with Nicky Fish who is passionate about sharing her wildlife expertise and inspiring others to enjoy nature and the outdoors. With over 30 years experience of working with children and 20 years teaching in the outdoor education field she makes outdoor learning exciting and extremely fun.
Nicky is professionally qualified as a Forest School Leader, ecologist and outdoor education and Bushcraft Instructor. Nicky is a member of the Institute For Outdoor Learning and of SEEF ( Sussex Environmental Education Forum ), is DBS certified, First Aid trained and has full Public Liability Insurance.
John Muir Award – Nicky is an assessor for this outdoor environmental award which celebrates natural wild places and encourages individuals to take personal responsibility for their care. There are 3 levels of awards ranging from 4 day visits upwards. The award can be taught to a group or to individual families. Please see website for further information or contact directly.
